Telling a story is difficult because it is a lossy process. An artist chooses a finite set of elements to compose and portray into their medium. No amount of detail or careful arranging can capture the full breadth of the experience that compelled the author to make the piece. In the medium, it is not only the work, but also a capsule of the artist’s identity.
